Why we have a safeguarding policy for minors
This policy explains how Castradar.uk protects the privacy and dignity of child actors and other minors who appear in our cast guides, filmographies and TV episode breakdowns. We know that many readers come to our site to research young performers they have seen on screen, and we want to do that responsibly.
Child actors are not public figures in the same way as adults. Many are still developing their own identity and career, and some have not chosen the spotlight for themselves. Our editorial policy already commits us to accuracy and fairness; this safeguarding policy adds specific protections for minors. We follow guidance from industry bodies and UK law, including the Children’s Code (Age Appropriate Design Code), to ensure that our coverage never puts a child at risk of harm, harassment or unwanted exposure.
How do we ensure accuracy and respect for child actors?
We treat every minor featured in our content with the same care we would want for our own family. Only factual, publicly available information is published – such as role names, credited appearances and verified filmographies – and we never speculate about a child’s personal life, family background or future projects.
Our standards team, led by Patrick Nolan, checks all cast credits against official sources like broadcaster press packs, credit listings and talent agency announcements. If a child actor’s age is not formally confirmed, we do not guess or infer. Photographs of minors are used only if they are official promotional images or screenshots from the programme itself, never private or unauthorised pictures. We also avoid using terms like “rising star” or “next big thing” that could create inappropriate pressure.
Any reader who believes we have published information about a minor that is inaccurate or intrusive can contact our corrections team. We review every request within 48 hours and will remove or amend content if it does not meet our standards.
What does this mean in practice?
Here is a concrete example. In our guide to the BBC series The Archers, we list child characters and the actors who play them. When we covered a young actor making her debut at age nine, we included only her credited role, the episode numbers she appeared in, and a link to the official BBC casting announcement. We did not mention her school, her parents’ names, or any details from her personal social media. The article also included a brief note that “this guide focuses on the character, not the performer’s private life” and linked to our celebrity privacy policy for further context.
The same approach applies to our film guide entries for movies such as Paddington in Peru and Matilda the Musical, where younger cast members are handled with the same restraint. Our editors are trained to ask “would we publish this if the subject were an ordinary child?” before committing any detail to the site.
